Moving Offices? Your IT Checklist

CITG Tech · November 6, 2026 · 5 min read

An office move has a hundred moving parts, and technology is the one that can stop your team cold on day one. Here's a simple checklist to keep your IT on track.

As soon as you choose a space

  • Order internet service right away. Business internet can take weeks or even months to install, and it's the most common reason a move gets delayed.
  • Walk the space with your IT team. Look at where desks, printers, and the network equipment will go, and where WiFi might struggle.
  • Check the building's wiring. Find out whether existing cabling can be reused or new cabling is needed.

A month or two before the move

  • Plan your network. Map out the firewall, switches, WiFi access points, and where everything plugs in.
  • Schedule cabling. It's much easier to run cable before furniture and people move in.
  • Plan your phones. Decide whether you're moving your current system or switching, and confirm your phone numbers will come with you.
  • Think about security and cameras. Door access and cameras are easiest to install at the same time as the network.

The week of the move

  • Back everything up before any equipment is unplugged.
  • Label everything: every computer, monitor, and cable, so it ends up at the right desk.
  • Test the new network before people arrive: internet, WiFi, printers, and phones.

Day one and after

  • Have IT on-site for the first morning to fix anything that didn't come back up cleanly.
  • Update your address with your internet, phone, and software providers, and on your website and Google Business Profile.
  • Clean up the old space and make sure no equipment or data is left behind.

We can handle the whole move

We plan and run IT moves from the first walk-through to the first day in the new space, including internet, cabling, WiFi, phones, cameras, and moving equipment. Bringing us in early is the single best way to avoid delays.
